To: Choral Festival Participants Fr: Mrs. Clark Re: Nashville Catholic Youth Choral Festival This Sunday, October 20, is the first annual Catholic Youth Choral Festival, hosted by Pope John Paul II High School! All activities will be in the auditorium. Please be at JPII at 12:30 for registration. Rehearsals begin at 1:00. Parents do not need to stay during rehearsal time. The concert is at 5:00 p.m. and will conclude at 5:30 p.m. There is no cost for this event and everyone is invited! Please invite friends and family to our concert! It will be an amazing showcase, featuring over 100 voices from our parochial schools. SINGERS NEED TO WEAR BLACK SKIRT OR PANTS AND A WHITE SHIRT OR SWEATER. If skirts are short, black leggings or tights must be worn. No heels, clunky shoes or shoes that make a lot of noise. Singers will be standing most of the time - be comfortable. We have been working on our music but our rehearsal time has been limited. Students do have copies of music and a CD that they can use to practice. Singers – please be listening and practicing! By way of clarification, the purpose of this choral festival is to provide an opportunity for 6th, 7th & 8th grade choral students in the diocese to sing together, building their musicianship and our community, while celebrating God’s gift of music in all of us. It is an opportunity to learn, collaborate and perform together. Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information. The 2013-2104 school year has brought some welcome changes to the SAS Fine Arts Department. We welcome Mrs. Jude Fay as our Theatre Arts teacher. Although I no longer teach Theatre Arts, I will leave my information on my web page until she has time to get her site up and running. We welcome Mrs. Beverly Singhel, who has started our first band program at SAS! We are so grateful for the strong support of this program. It is wonderful to be able to round out our music program by offering both instrumental and choral opportunities for our students. The addition of a band director and a theatre teacher has freed up my schedule to offer more music opportunities for our students. For the first time in many years, I get to provide music for the Friday morning mass. As you know, this is not an all school mass; instead, individual classes attend for what is hopefully a deeper, more personal experience. I am taking the opportunity to invite a student from the attending class to assist me with music by singing the Psalm. Made for Praise is back by popular demand! M4P is being offered as a Quality Project this year for 3rd & 4th graders. We will meet every other Friday, during QP time. Our first rehearsal is this Friday, 9/13. Mrs. Fay and I are co-directors for the choir. If you have questions or need more information, please feel free to contact either of us. And last, but certainly not least, the music / art room got a much needed fresh coat of paint this summer! We "re-habbed" some bulletin boards that were no longer being used in the school and added 9 of them to our room. They look fabulous and provide more places for us to display student work, instructional visuals and general information. Our room looks fantastic! Can you tell that I really, really love it!!
